hey mike whats up not to much here hope your enjoying your vacation about the swisher trade i like his energy and what he brings to the game but he is a player i would rather have to face in a game than have on my team his last 3 years he has batted .236 .254 .262 not quite the production i would want he has hit some hr's 21,35,22 in the past 3 years came close to breaking 100 rbi's in a season but hasnt yet im not sure where oakland had him batting in the lineup and another stat that i hate is he has struck out over 100 time each of the last 3 years 110,152,131. i thought we had enough hitters in our line up with poor batting averages and high strikeout rates i would take the platoon of dellucci and michaels over swisher

Made a pretty nice pick up of Nick Swisher from the A's.

Beane has stated he is heading for a rebuild.

One thing about Swisher is I don't know who doesn't like this guy. He would definitely upgrade our OF situation.

Sox GM had no plans to trade for Swisher, but he suddenly came into view and the Sox had to make the deal attractive. So they let go 3 of their minor leaguers, Gonzalas, De Los Santos and Sweeney...

I think Swisher is a decent enough player your not going to get him for nothing....

I like the trade for the Sox....Swisher is a high energy type player. It also shows the Sox aren't going to stand pat, like (ahem) one team we know....

Keep the competition tough, we'll have to get tougher....Lets get the AL Division back up to the baddest in the league!

Seems like the computer spam bots aren't capable of such things, so they can't register.

the offseason has been very boring the two signings we made wont hurt the team at all it helps a little bit and if it were not for detroit making that huge trade i dont think we will be sitting to bad,,, we still dont have power numbers at the power positions like we need. i think left field is our weakest position as i look at the batting order sizemore is sizemore and while he needs to cut down on his strikeouts he is still a hell of a player. my man cabrera i dont think we have to worry about i think he has an all around game at the plate he looks to get the ball in play even slapping at the ball when he needs to i dont think he will have a sophomore slump. hafner i dont know what to think about him at times last year he looked dumbfounded at the plate something i have never seen from him in the past victor i dont think he can do it again but he will come close to the same production. garko should improve maybe hit a few more bombs i keep forgetting the post season that peralta had he was hitting the cover off the ball but he needs to cut down on his strikeouts also,,, gutz will improve also i think he won the rf job and i think in a full season he will have more hrs and stolen bases and even if his bat fails a game or two his defense should save a few runs... blake well he seams to have a good year every other year but he is getting up to the age where major leaguers start to decline i really hope marte can come through and we can move blake to a super utility role maybe a healthy season from dellucci and michaels can do something but i hate platoons maybe fransico choo or snyder can win the job in the spring but i doubt it,,, starting pitching looks great but i still think we could trade one away to improve the team else where bullpen is solid also but we need to find out closer of the future all in all we still have an above average team but we are not going to compete with the tigers this year and i have always believed that to make the post season you have to win the season series against your division rivals,,, i see this team winning alot of games but coming u short of the postseason by a couple of games

I don't neccesarily agree....

We all know, and Shapiro has confirmed it, that the market isn't bearing much fruit.

So if their is someone of decent value, you have to give it all you got....

I totally agree, no way do we give an Asdrubal up....

But Miller wouldn't be a problem....

And we do have the cash available....

It would have been huge to sign Cabrera....Huge!

I have heartedly think Shapiro is afraid to pull the trigger on this farm system he got so much recognition in building....

I think we both see advantages, rather than disadvantages, to all aspects of the game. I think it is also a far more exciting game when you apply everything the game has to offer.

And it is how the game was meant to be played. (Don't give them anything, and take all you can get.)

We hear Wedgie saying that, but I am not sure what he is referring to. Their playing the game right, I think it is he says. We'll figure out what he means by that someday....maybe....hell, who knows.

We are a slow team. Our defense is there somewhere. We have holes.

As we cruise the web and the other forums, we see fans defending such ideas we throw out there as bitching.

"The team won 90+ games, the division, 1 game shy of the World Series....it was a great season, but some still aren't happy!"

The funny thing about that quote, and baseball being baseball, we can see the team doing the same this season, and at the end, it can be the players uttering that same sentiment...and of course their correct......but it was never our point right now.

If you and your staff are in agreement, and you all feel an upgrade is needed, you have to do it....

I don't think hoping the team will improve over the off season is aggressive enough at all.....

Yeah Mike, we both enjoy the pitching/defense/speed aspects of the game.

A full year of A-Cab & Gutz will definitely help in the defense/speed categories even if they hit a few bumps in the road.

We need to K less & draw more walks as a team. No Barfield helps. I think this will be the year that Grady cuts down his K's to a respectable number.

Overall, I expect Vic, Peralta & Blake to regress a bit from 2007 & for Grady, Pronk & Garko to improve from 2007.

Gutz can't be worse than Nixon & A-Cab can't be worse than Barfield even if they don't shine offensively.

I have this feeling that Shapiro is ready to stand pat & go into spring training with the team as is, then pursue trades(s) later on in March or after the season starts.

I also have a feeling that Byrd is going to be a waste of 8M in 08 & I hope that a team desperate for SP will give us something useful for him while saving us 8M.

Well, its obvious Shappys best plan of attack is to let the kids grow from last years experience....

So lets toss that line of thinking around some....

Defensively, I dont see grady getting much better...he already is superb....possibly strengthening the throwing arm some might help.

LF-RF.....I don't see much improvement, unless Franky is given the job fulltime....

Peralta...eh...maybe....I think it depends on how lean he comes into spring training...

Asdrubal.....will rip this year...he's ready.

3rd.....eh.....

Offensively, Grady and Jhonny cut dwn the whiffs, yes, more better!

Victor, your kidding. He was superb.

LF-RF....only if Franky gets more time.

Blake........eh, maybe.

Pitching, tough to beat last season.....CC and Carmona rocked! Byrd shined. Possible to improve, we'll see.

Hafner......I think it is very possible to improve his role on the team. How? By not making his bat the main course, but instend, letting it be the icing on the cake. A Power Hitting LFer added to the team possibly changes Pronks role from the main course to the dessert.

Numbers show after the AllStar break, we didn't make the league average in anything. Runs, Hits, Extra Base, HR's, OBP, etc, we were below average, right across the board.

But, lets sit around and watch the paint...

Don't hold your breath.

It doesn't do much even when Shapiro does address the fans.
Same old story....maintain payroll flexibility....we can't afford to pay market price....he brings great clubhouse chemistry to the team.

I like Shapiro & even think the moves so far (Kobayashi & Carroll) will be slightly helpful to the team, but those kinds of moves are typical for Shapiro & won't get many fans excited.
Absolutely right Eck....totally un-inspiring moves so far.

But the Shappies and the Wedgies eat this stuff up. They can't see how their heroe's spin what they do into some sign of intelligence that they alone possess.

The Tigers stay healthy, their going to have a helluva season.

I ripped Shapiro for the last 2 off seasons, once the season is underway I'll rip him again for not taking any advantage of it.

It is going to be another ho-hum off season for us Tribe fans. If we can add another area of weakness to Shapiros list it would be that. His off-season moves usually leave us fans looking like this , , this, , this, .

Seldom, if ever like this , or this .

I think he simply has to do more. This off season, the last, the one before, or any of them.

I was listening to the Mike Tirico show a few days after the big trade was announced. Tirico is from Detroit & has a friend in the Tigers ticket office. His friend said the day after the trade was announced that the phones wouldn't stop ringing.

Dombrowski has probably already made enough $ to cover Cabrera & Willis' salaries for next season & then some.

I like Shapiro, but he talks out of both sides of his mouth. He says his job isn't to put fans in he seats, but he continually talks about the business side of baseball.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't think the names Kobayashi & Carroll made many Tribe fans want to rush out & buy season tickets.

well its to late on haren also the dbacks gave a ton for him their # one prospect and 3 other top 10 prospects i can see why the indians never pulled the trigger but we need to do something here in the imediate future with the rumor of haren going around i was pretty pumped but am once again deflated i havnt heard anymore updates on sabathia yet not sure if they are waiting til spring training or not i wish they would get off their butts and do somethingwe have enough prospects and potential talent to trade for something either a hitter or pitcher we got marte miller lee fransico maybe sowers all of which i dont see helping us much this year marte has been a bust and e is out of options so unless he has a huge spring which i have never seen we cant even send him to the minors miller is always hurt lee has more value to other teams than us i would like to keep sowers as a sixth starter fransico has talent to be a good major league player but is unproven and if we trade for a bay or someone like him we would have no spot for him,,,
